PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND

Before becoming an attorney, Joe spent over a decade working inside private medical practices, beginning in the men's health industry and later expanding into concierge medicine, hormone replacement, wellness, aesthetics, dermatology, hair restoration, and functional medicine.

His career in medicine began as a patient counselor and treatment closer, working face-to-face with patients and selling treatment programs at clinics across Chicago, Milwaukee, Green Bay, Charlotte, Omaha, Albuquerque, Denver, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles.

EXPERIENCE INSIDE GROWTH-STAGE PRACTICES

Joe later partnered with the Chief Medical Officer of a national men’s health organization, with whom he had previously worked, to launch a high-end concierge medical practice in Beverly Hills that later expanded to Newport Beach.

The practice served an exceptionally affluent clientele, including recognizable public figures, and offered TRT/HRT, peptides, aesthetics, dermatology, hair restoration, functional medicine, and other cash-pay services.

Joe worked directly with patients throughout the entire experience—from initial consultation and treatment selection to pricing, sales, and long-term retention—while also working alongside the physician on the operational and business side of the practice.

That experience gave Joe firsthand exposure to how modern private medical practices actually grow: how patients are acquired, how services are sold, how providers and staff operate, how new service lines are introduced, and how business decisions affect both revenue and risk.

He didn't learn the business of private medicine from the outside. He lived it.

LEGAL TRAINING & DEFENSE PERSPECTIVE

Years inside medical practices also showed Joe how seemingly small operational decisions can become serious legal problems as a business grows.

That experience ultimately pushed him toward law.

While attending Ave Maria School of Law, Joe worked in civil defense litigation involving medical malpractice, negligence, premises liability, and other complex disputes.

Litigation gave him the other side of the equation: how decisions made inside a business look when lawyers begin examining them years later.

That perspective now shapes how he advises physicians—not just whether a decision works today, but how it may look to a regulator, licensing board, investor, buyer, opposing lawyer, or jury tomorrow.

BEFORE MEDICINE AND LAW, JOE WAS A SOLDIER

Before entering healthcare, Joe served five years in the United States Army. He is a veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom and Joint Task Force Guantanamo Bay.

The Army gave Joe a fairly simple way of looking at responsibility: know your job, prepare for what can go wrong, and deal with problems directly when they do.

Joe has carried that mentality into everything he has done since.

WHY JOE BUILT JANSSEN PRIVATE COUNSEL

Joe built Janssen Private Counsel for physicians who aren't just practicing medicine.

They're building businesses.

Opening locations. Hiring providers. Building MSOs. Adding service lines. Bringing in partners. Expanding into new markets. Taking on investors. Preparing for an eventual sale.

This is designed to get counsel involved before the problem happens—not after.

The goal is simple: understand what the physician is trying to build, identify the risks that actually matter, and structure a path forward.

BUILT TO MOVE WITH THE BUSINESS

This counsel is not built to slow a practice down.

Private medicine is still a business. Patients have to come through the door. Providers have to produce. Marketing has to work. The business has to make money.

Good legal counsel has to understand that reality.

Sometimes the answer is no.

But when there is a legitimate path forward, Joe will find it.

CURRENT PRACTICE

Through Janssen Private Counsel, Joe works with physicians and private medical practices on matters involving practice formation and restructuring, MSO development, ownership and control, physician supervision and clinical authority, compensation structures, contracts, regulatory compliance, investigations, growth, and transactions.

His practice is focused on modern private medicine, including concierge and cash-pay practices, hormone and wellness clinics, med spas and aesthetics practices, plastic surgery practices, and other physician-led healthcare businesses.
